Information BWR may collect
When you contact BWR, register interest in volunteering or use a member account, BWR may receive details such as your name, contact information, suburb, emergency contacts, training and compliance records, case activity and information you choose to provide.
Wildlife reports may also involve species information, photographs, general or exact locations, hazards and rescue circumstances where those details are needed to coordinate a response.
Why the information is used
BWR uses information to respond to wildlife incidents, contact volunteers and members, coordinate rescue operations, maintain required member records, track equipment and finance activity, produce internal operational reporting and respond to enquiries.
BWR does not sell personal information to advertisers or use member records for unrelated commercial marketing.
Wildlife Guide photo identification
If you choose photo identification in the Wildlife Guide, the selected image is processed to produce possible wildlife matches. The image is not retained by BWR after the identification request is processed.
The identification service may send the image to the configured Google identification service for analysis. Species records and related public wildlife information may also be checked against the Atlas of Living Australia.
Volunteer enquiries
Volunteer enquiry details are used to respond to your expression of interest and discuss possible BWR involvement. The form currently uses an email-delivery provider to send the enquiry to BWR.
Member portal and private records
The private member portal uses authenticated access and database permissions to restrict member, training, case, equipment, finance and compliance information according to BWR portal roles.
Private uploaded documents and rescue photographs are stored in non-public storage. Exact sensitive wildlife, carer and release locations are not intended for public display.
Service providers
BWR currently relies on service providers including Vercel for website hosting, Supabase for authentication, database and private storage, Resend for configured email delivery, Google for optional Wildlife Guide photo identification, and the Atlas of Living Australia for public biodiversity information.
Those services process information according to their own security and privacy terms when BWR uses them to deliver a website or portal function.
Access, correction and questions
If information held by BWR is incorrect, or you have a question about how it is being used, contact BWR through the normal rescue or organisation contact channels. Members can also update or request changes to many records through the member portal.
